Games, Fun, Strategy - the After-Work Games Evenings at the Haus des Buches
Round off the evening together
What began as a small initiative by Valeska and Katrin has developed into an insider tip at the Haus des Buches: The after-work gaming sessions are attracting more and more colleagues who are passionate about board games as well as books. “Our games group has now grown to 20 people,” reports Valeska. “It's great to see how interest in our little after-work initiative is growing.”
Every two months, the games enthusiasts meet for three hours in the office's lounge. The central room then becomes a lively meeting place for colleagues from the Haus des Buches, such as the Börsenverein, the Frankfurter Buchmesse, MVB and LitCam. Interesting conversations develop between turns and people discover things they have in common. “After a working day full of meetings, it's refreshing to get to know colleagues from a completely different angle,” says Valeska. “It shows who thinks tactically, who has a poker face or who just needs luck when rolling the dice.”
“Right from the start, it was important to us that everyone has fun and can try out new games as well as tried-and-tested ones,” explains Katrin. ”At every meeting, colleagues bring along their favorite games or new discoveries. That makes every evening a new experience. Sometimes we start with a quick party game that makes for a good laugh and then venture into more complex strategy games. It's amazing how quickly the time flies by.”
The connections made during the game evenings are particularly valuable: While solving puzzles together or rolling the dice to win, you get to know colleagues from other departments and companies in a whole new way. Many projects later benefit from the contacts made here.
But Valeska gives a warning to future participants: “The only risk: you can discover new favorite games - and of course get addicted to our game nights!”
